Whitehall Church Bazaar - Oct. 31
Whitehall Church, located at 10595 Hwy 14 West in Louisville, will host their annual Bazaar on October 31st from 8:00 until noon. This will be an outside only event this year due to Covid-19. Everyone is required to wear a mask. Also, no breakfast, lunch, or dip samplings will be served. Pottery, distressed furniture, crafts, frozen casseroles, baked goods, dip mixes, quilts, and much more will be offered. In case of inclement weather, the event will be moved to November 7th. Half of the proceeds goes to local missions and half goes to the building fund. Sneak peeks of bazaar items may be viewed prior to the event at Whitehall Church Bazaar Facebook page. Pink Celebration 2020 with Janice Turner - Oct. 24

The 6th Annual Pink Celebration will be held Saturday, October 24, 2020, 9 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at the Louisville Coliseum. Breast cancer survivors and others who are affected by breast cancer will gather to share their experience. There will be speakers who will help attendees become more breast cancer aware. October is breast cancer awareness month.
To show support, please decorate your vehicle in Pink and White, dress in pink and white or wear your breast cancer awareness t-shirt, if you have one.
To ensure the safety of all participants and guests, everyone will remain in their vehicle for the short program. Only the participants on the program will come to the podium and be directed by the Pink Patrol. All participants must wear a face mask and practice social distancing.

Fire Hydrant Maintenance starting October 5, 2020
On October 5, 2020 the City of Louisville Fire Department will begin its annual fire hydrant maintenance. Hydrant maintenance will be for the most part conducted between the hours of 7:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Saturday although there may be some occasions where personnel will be required to work later in the evening. Please be mindful of our personnel when approaching the fire department vehicles on the side of the road. Residents may notice some temporary discoloration in the water. The discoloration of water is not harmful, and is the result of sediment that is always present in waterlines being “stirred up” during hydrant testing. As part of testing procedures, the Fire Department will flow each hydrant until the water is clear, however smaller water lines that lead to each house or business may still have cloudy water. If you notice discolored water it may be remedied by flowing water from your faucets, and a cycle through your washing machine until it is clear.
Fire hydrant maintenance is important in order to ensure the City has properly working fire hydrants. The hydrants are inspected, flowed to check for adequate water flow, and cleaned around to ensure there is enough clearance for operation of the hydrant. A quality fire hydrant maintenance and inspections program is just one of the many components that the Mississippi State Rating Bureau evaluates when an audit of the city’s fire protection is completed. The City of Louisville currently has a fire rating of 6 with 1 being the highest, or best, and 10 being the lowest, or least desirable. Simply stated conducting these hydrant inspections, and maintenance assists in keeping property insurance low. Also fire hydrant flushing helps to insure that your firefighters are knowledgeable about the general water volumes available for firefighting operations and whether there are any major flow changes since last year’s test. Hydrant maintenance is critical to fire suppression and the protection of life and property.

Mid-MS Regional Library System Offers Online Tutoring for Students Through Brainfuse HelpNow
Mid-MS Regional Library System (MMRLS) is excited to introduce a free one-on-one virtual tutoring service for students of all ages and levels through the experts at Brainfuse HelpNow. Public school, private school, homeschool, and college students in Attala, Holmes, Leake, Montgomery, and Winston County can begin accessing this new homework help resource on October 1.
The Brainfuse HelpNow service allows students to access on-demand, live tutoring (2pm-11pm) with homework help available 24/7 throughout the year. All students need to get started is a valid library card and PIN.
Students can learn at their own pace, in a relaxed one-on-one setting, at a time that is flexible and convenient for them. All live tutoring sessions are saved and can be replayed as well as shared with friends and teachers. The subjects covered include math, reading, writing, science, social studies, and more!

ECCC Tennis Hosting Fourth Woods & Whites Doubles Fundraiser Oct. 24
The East Central Community College tennis program is hosting its fourth Woods & Whites Doubles Tournament on Saturday, Oct. 24, at the Tennis Complex on the ECCC campus in Decatur.
The Woods & Whites event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The cost is $30 per player, payable at the event. All proceeds support the ECCC men’s and women’s tennis programs and facilities.
Woods & Whites is a fun, social doubles tournament played like Wimbledon in the old days. Players must wear white clothing (minimum white shirt or T-shirt) and hit with wood racquets. White tennis balls will also be used. Wood racquets will be provided if needed.
The doubles tournament will be a round robin format with four-game pro sets and old school nine-point tie breaks. Those without doubles partners will be paired with other players.

Registration Open for Forklift Operation Class Through ECCC and ReSkillMS
The Workforce Development Center at East Central Community College in Decatur is offering a two-day Forklift Operation course through the ReSkillMS program.
Registration is currently open and financial aid is available to qualified applicants through the ReSkillMS program. The class will meet from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 9, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 10, at the old US Motors facility, located at 1224 North Pecan Avenue in Philadelphia. Taylor Dickerson will serve as instructor.

Vote Rally -October 3rd
In collaboration with the Winston County NAACP and Voters League, Lawrence Sangster has organized a Get-Out-To-Vote Rally just prior to the critical November 3, 2020 Election. The Rally is scheduled for Saturday, October 3, 2020, at the Louisville Coliseum on Ivy Avenue from 10:00 a.m. to 12 noon. Men are asked to bring lawn chairs, practice social distancing and wear face masks. Men of all ages, but no younger than 16 years, Black, White, Red and Yellow are the targeted audience.
The following speakers have been invited: Attorney Rod Hickman, Noxubee County Prosecutor, Representative Kabir Karriem, MS District 41, Representative Carl Mickens, MS District 42, and Rev. Marc Fomby, CEO of FTC Prevention Services. A few topics to be discussed are: Voter Suppression, Disenfranchising Crimes, the Expungement Process and Absentee Voting. Music by D.J. Sam I AM, a personal testimony and various entertainers are on the planned agenda for this historical event. There will be an opportunity for on-site voter registration, as well.
This Rally is a Call to Action to foster and increase community participation, use the power of our voices at the ballot box and become a more informed and empowered electorate.This election is the most logistic and complicated of our time, due to its many challenges. These challenges are organic like COVID-19 and some man-made like attacks on the United Postal Services, foreign interference, and misinformation and disinformation, to name a few. The purpose of this Black Lives Matter-#Men Rally to VOTE is increase voter turnout and to create a community of men who will be informed, inspired and encouraged to become more involved in the political process, especially voting.

DAR Constitution Week Display at the Library
To celebrate Constitution Week, which is September 17-23, 2020, The Nanih Waiya Chapter of the D.A.R., placed a display at the Winston County Library (and also at the Winston County Courthouse). The display includes pamphlets on our Constitution, our Flag and two clay sculptures by local ceramist Susan Clark. One depicts Lady Liberty and the other depicts Elizabeth Caddy Stanton, Lucretia Mott and Susan B. Anthony celebrating the passage of the 19th Amendment, giving women the right to vote. “This is a wonderful display,” said librarian Beth Edwards. “Since this is an election year, we plan to leave it up for the public to enjoy until after November 3rd.”
