There will be a free Medicare info seminar at the Winston County Library on Wednesday, January 18 at 10:00.

Author Event at the Winston County Library- Frances Woodruff- Jan 6

The Winston County Library will hold an author event for Louisville native Mrs. Frances Woodruff on Friday, January 6, 2023 at 11:30. She will talk about her new book, “They Wore Gray: Confederate Soldiers of Winston County, Mississippi”. The Friends of the Library will provide free brown bag lunches for the first 24 participants.
 

Winston County Library Hosting Christmas Party for Children - Dec.16

On Friday, December 16th at 3:30, The Winston County Library will host a Christmas party for children which will include refreshments, storytime, and a toy stuffing event. Children get to take their stuffed animal home with them.

Santa Claus will also be at the library to take pictures with the children.

Town & Country Garden Club Christmas Tree at the Winston County Library

The Town & Country Garden Club put up their annual Christmas tree at the Winston County Library recently. (L-R) Club President Diane Dempsey, Historian Noneine Keene, Secretary Debbie Moody, Patricia Holton, Sandra Cullwell, and Treasurer Dale Shumaker. Be sure and stop by the library to see the tree, plus all the many Christmas decorations throughout the library!







Jr. Auxiliary Angel Tree is Now at the Winston County Library

The annual Jr. Auxiliary Angel Tree is now at the Winston County Library and has 257 needy children who are ready to be "adopted" for Christmas. There are four drop off dates at the Louisville Fire Station, but the last date is November 26.

Job Opening at the Winston County Library

Allen Baswell Book Event - July 15

There will be an author event on Friday, July 15th from 11:30 – 1:00 at the Winston County Library. Choctaw native Allen Baswell will introduce his new book of poetry, “Mississippi Musings”. The Friends of the Library will provide brown bag lunches for participants.


Scott Hendrix Book Event - July 1

The Winston County Journal is pleased to host local author Scott Hendrix for a book talk and Q & A about his first novel, The Garden Spot. The event will take place Friday, July 1st at the library from 11:30 – 1:00. The Friends of the Library will provide brown bag lunches for the first 24 participants.

Scott Hendrix has lived in Louisville, Mississippi his entire life. He and his wife Nora Gay have two children, Sidney Louise who lives in Oxford, Mississippi and Hoyt Davis who is a senior at Mississippi State University.

Scott attended Louisville High School and graduated from Mississippi State University with a BA in Communication. He works as a Regional Sales Representative for a company based in New Jersey.

“The Garden Spot” is his first novel set in the fictional town of Lewiston, Mississippi. He is currently working on his second novel which will be a sequel. He has also written several short stories as well.

The Garden Spot, is listed as #10 on the Clarion Ledger’s Best Mississippi Reads!

The Mississippi Poetry Society Festival - April 29 - May 1

THE MISSISSIPPI POETRY SOCIETY is holding its annual festival at Lake Tiak O’Khata in Louisville, Mississippi, April 29-May 1, 2022. Saturday morning, April 30, at 10:15, the winners of our student contest will be reading their winning poems for us. Visitors who would like to be present
for this special event will be welcome.

At 11:45 that day, our KEYNOTE SPEAKER, Dr. Benjamin Morris, will be presenting his lecture “From the Delta to the Coast: Recent Trends in Contemporary Mississippi Poetry.”

Dr. Morris, a native Mississippian residing in Hattiesburg, is an award-winning poet, writer, and researcher whose work appears in the United States and Europe. Please join us in Honeysuckle Hall for one or both of these special events. Visitors who come in at other times will also be welcome.

Braves Bookworm Challenge

Students can win 2 free tickets to a 2022 Braves regular-season home game by reading 400 minutes by the end of March. That’s about 20 minutes a day, 5 days a week, for 4 weeks. Very doable!

The deadline for the Mississippi Braves Bookworm Challenge is April 1st. A Parent/Guardian Letter verifying the child has read 400 hours must be turned in by April 1st. The letter is available at the library or can be downloaded at Midmisslibrary.com/Braves website.
