Cozy Up to a Good Mystery with the Winston County Library

Do you love reading cozy mysteries? Then come to the library and join the Kensington Cozy Card program, where your love of the cozy mystery genre results in prizes!

It’s free to participate! All you have to do is:
1. Ask library staff for a punch card.
2. Each time you check out a cozy mystery (book, eBook, or audiobook), make sure to have the staff member stamp one of the ten purple circles on the punch card.
3. When you have ten stamps, mail in your Cozy Card with your name and address. You will be provided the address to mail your punch card.

Once your Cozy Card is received, you will receive a cozy mystery or advance copy of a cozy mystery for every completed Cozy Card received, along with a new Cozy Card for you to start again!

What is a cozy mystery? Cozy mysteries are comedic murder mysteries that show you what happens when you put a baker, a quilter, a candy shop owner, a pet sitter, or some other unqualified sleuth on the case to solve a crime. More precisely, cozies are lighthearted, with plenty of humor, no graphic violence or adult situations, and include an amateur sleuth (or sleuthing team) living in a close-knit community, solving a crime while juggling a day job, hobby, or other responsibilities.

Sound like fun? Be sure to stop by the library, get your first Cozy Mystery Punch Card, and start reading!

January is Beyond Books Month at the Library

The Winston County Library is promoting “Beyond Books” month during January. “We have over 65,800 books in our collection”, says Librarian Beth Edwards. “But, these days, a library is so much more than a book collection. We offer many other services to our patrons that have become very popular!”

Our additional services include free apps such as Hoopla and cloudLibrary, which offer e-books, audiobooks, TV shows, movies, comics, and music; wireless printing and free scanning/e-mailing. There are also over 2,000 free DVDs available for checkout and audio CDs.

For children, there are digital learning devices such as educational tablets called Launchpads and Wonderbooks, which are print books with pre-loaded audio content bound into the cover so children can hear their favorite stories while reading along!

Other services have been around for a long time and are always popular – newspapers, magazines, fax, laminating, and copy services.

A new service is now being offered to the public for free – Notary Services. “We are very excited to have this available to the public,” commented Librarian Beth Edwards. “We continue to strive to find new ways to serve our community.”

The Winston County Library is a part of the Mid-Mississippi Regional Library System, headquartered in Kosciusko, MS.
